Purpose: To Eliminate Negativity and Attain Spiritual Illumination
Details:
Deep Daan involves offering lamps (deep) to divine entities or sacred rivers to dispel darkness and bring enlightenment, both spiritually and materially. This act signifies the removal of ignorance and negativity, inviting prosperity, peace, and divine grace. Deep Daan is considered especially auspicious during festivals, eclipses, or on Purnima (full moon days). It is also performed for the well-being of ancestors, invoking their blessings and purifying ancestral karmic debts.
Mythological Connection:
According to the Skanda Purana, lighting a lamp and offering it in devotion pleases the deities and removes sins, leading to liberation (moksha). Lord Krishna emphasized the significance of lighting lamps during Kartik Purnima, considering it an offering of light to the divine.
